The Giver

What intrigues you most about this book so far?

  1. The thing that intrigues me the most in the story so far, is that The Giver isn't called upon by the Elders that much. I truly thought that they would ask him for advice often because he is very important to the community. I wonder why the community would select him if they barely called upon him. But I understand that it is important for the Receiver to bare the horrid and gruesome memories of the past. Some of the memories are actually quite relaxing, calm, and soothing. I believe that the community should call on him more frequently.

  2. The thing that intrigues me the most is the place Jonas lives in. First, there are no birthdays, and instead, ceremonies. That is definitely not normal. Also, why do people get their jobs at their supposed age of 12. Considered by today's standards, that is about 7 years worth of difference. And also. In this world, there are no colors. Now, that just shook me. This world is much more different than this world. This gets my attention, and intrigues me, because of all the differences.

  3. The thing that intrigues me most about the book is the author's ability to describe the dullness and sameness in the book in a way that is interesting and keeps me wanting to read more. The Community is a boring place where everyone is the same and is expected to follow the ridiculous rules, such as you cannot have feelings. It is so ridiculous but the author finds a way to make it interesting and keep you wanting to read more.
